One of the main  reasons why so many people visit the Madeira Island is because of its gardens and flowers. All Madeira Parks and Gardens have a big variety of flowers and trees blooming all year round. Botanical Gardens is the most famous tourist attraction; situated at Quinta do Bom Sucesso on a hillside, it provides wonderful views. The Manor house was built in 1881 by the Reid’s Family. Gardens are owned by the Government and open to the public. Monte Palace Tropical Gardens is situated on the hilltop of Monte. From here, spectacular views over Funchal’s bay takes your breath away.  Monte, an 18th century historical palace was a luxury hotel but today it is transformed into a garden and museum. The Flower Festival is one of the most colorful traditional events organised in Madeira.  Many activities and celebrations take place around Funchal starting with the making of a pavement flower carpet, concerts and folklore groups dancing. There are many superb flower displays and the exciting children’s parade.  Many groups line up and dance on the streets of Funchal, dressed in beautifully colourful Madeira embroidery costumes, while floats are decorated with tropical and subtropical flowers.
