St. Petersburg’s cemeteries

It may be strange to write about the city and to start with the cemeteries, but there is no better place to learn about the history than these tranquil memorial parks containing the graves of the rich, the famous, the poor and the unknown. In St. Petersburg there are two famous cemeteries known as the Necropolis of Masters of Arts. The Lazarus Cemetery is the place where many famous architects are buried: Quarenghi, Rossi, de Thomon, and Voronikhin as well as scientists like Mikhail Lomonosov. The Tikhvinskoye cemetery is the resting place of several of St. Petersburg’s great literary and musical figures. There are graves of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Borodin and Tchaikovsky and many more.
