Zakynthos III

Zakynthos famous Shipwreck Beach, also known as Smuggler’s Cove or Navagio Bay, is one of the most well-known beaches in Greece. It is about 6kms northwest of Alykes, just off the main road to Skinari. Getting there is a bit tricky, as the beach is hidden from the main road, but there is a dirt truck that leads you to the lookout for this magical place. Another way to get to this place is by boat. The shipwreck was a freighter built in 1937 in Glasgow. Sold in 1975 to Lisikatos of Piraeus, it was named Panagiotis. Chased in 1980 by Greek Navy, as it was suspected of smuggling contraband, it run aground and abandoned to the delight of all photographers and tourist who flog there to take pictures.
