Turkey is a massive country, with its smaller part in Southeastern Europe and its larger part in Western Asia. Its size is 783,562 km² and population reached 74 million. The history and geography is rich and varied. Modern Turkey is a relatively young republic, established upon the remains of the Ottoman Empire in 1923, but it is an ancient land, one may say without doubt, the cradle of civilization with fascinating sites of ancient settlement. The land has been influenced heavily by the Greek, Roman and Ottoman Empires and some of the historical places luckily survived. In this blog, a tiny selection of some interesting places is shown, mainly: Zelve, Yazilikaya, Trabzon, Tars, Sarati, Muradiye, Gobeklitepe, Gender and Erzurum.
