Dubrovnik a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea coast, positioned at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik is is one of the most prominent tourist  destinations on the Adriatic. Also called the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’,  was  an important Mediterranean sea power in medieval era. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667,  its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains were saved. Unfortunately, it was damaged again in the 1990s war; it is now the focus of a major restoration programme. The compact and beautifully preserved fortifications in the Old Town, picturesque terracotta-roofed townhouses and centuries-old stone monuments  of Rector’s Palace and magnificent Baroque Cathedral are all worth a visit.
