The Karnak Temple complex is a vast mix of temple, chapels and other buildings. It was known as the most secret place by the ancient Egyptians. It is part of the monumental city of Thebes and the main place of worship of god Amun. It is massive in size and the area of the sacred enclosure of Amon alone is 61 acres! The vast complex of Karnak was built over a thirteen hundred year period. The main temples are of Mutt,  Montu  and Amun are enclosed by walls. Apart from several huge temples, there is a forest of columns, pylons, obelisks and sphinxes. An ancient obelisk still standing amidst all that weighs approximately 323 tons and is 29 metres high.
